Just a few weeks agoHMD unveiled the HMD Fusion smartphone, along with ‘outfits’ to help personalise the smartphone not just to the look you want but also to the function you want. Now you can get it in Australia for just $499.

The HMD Fusion promises to be a well-built smartphone with a plastic casing reinforced by strong, stainless steel with its industrial design making a fashion statement all by itself. The basic Fusion comes with a clear Casual Outfit (case) to show off the new design from HMD.

The HMD Fusion launches with interchangeable outfits designed to ‘elevate your smartphone experience’ including various coloured casual outfits. The outfits function through six specialised pins on the phone and outfit that instantly alter the hardware and software of the phone allowing new capabilities associated with that outfit to be accessed.

In December, more of these outfits will arrive, including a Flashy Outfit, which comes equipped with a built-in ring light that can be used with both the front and rear cameras. Thanks to the integration of the outfit and the operating system from HMD, the light is controlled using software on the device.

Other outfits on the December horizon include:

  • A Rugged Outfit with IP68 protection that is dust-tight and protected against full immersion in water. this one includes wireless charging magnets and an ICE button — perfect for the adrenaline junkies in the outdoors.
  • Gaming Outfit with full console gaming-like controls for all your favourite supported games.
  • Wireless Outfit that looks good but adds wireless charging magnetic support to the Fusion.

The camera on the HMD Fusion is impressive on paper with its 50MP selfie camera and a 108MP dual rear camera to provide excellent low-light and high-speed photography.

HMD Fusion is designed with their new FIY (Fix It Yourself) in mind offering the ability to have it fixed easily if required. It is equipped with Gen 2 repairability allowing you to easily change a depleted battery, smashed display and more. Using an iFixit kit available for $39.99 all you have to do it ‘pop’ open the phone, unscrew the part to be replaced and then put it back together with the new part in place.

Arriving with a three year warranty and a minimum of two years of OS upgrades and three years of security updates, the HMD Fusion is available at Harvey Norman, JB Hi-Fi, Amazon, Officeworks (online), Big W (online) and via www.hmd.com/en_au for A$499 RRP.
