Electric mobility brand Segway has unveiled two e-bikes at CES 2025, , marking an evolution from their original self-balancing transporter most of us would be familiar with. The new releases – the powerful Xyber and the versatile Xafari.

The flagship Xyber model pushes the boundaries of what’s possible in the e-bike segment. This high performance machine boasts impressive specifications:

  • Peak power output of 6,000 watts
  • Maximum torque of 175Nm
  • Top speed of 56.3km/h in dual batter configurations
  • 0-32km/h acceleration in just 2.7 seconds
  • Range of 180 kilometres between charges
  • 50.8 x 12.7cm fat tyres
  • Total weight 66.4kg

The Xyber priced at $5.499, offers three distinct throttle modes – Eco, Sport and Race – along with 12 levels of pedal assistance. Segway currently classify the Xyber as “unclassified” and not street legal. Personal e-scooters remain illegal in NSW on roads and road-related areas but as we see, this hasn’t hindered the popularity of these type of devices.

The more accessible Xafari, priced at $4,399 represents Segway’s vision of a versatile urban cruiser. Key features include:

  • Adjustable components to accommodate riders from 155cm to 188cm
  • Advanced suspension system with adjustable preload and compression damping
  • 66 x 7.6xm tyres
  • 936kW battery
  • Integrated USB charging port
  • Built-in storage solutions

Both models incorporate Segway’s Intelligent Ride System, featuring:

  • Airlock anti-theft technology with automatic alarm
  • Apple Find My and Segway GPS integration
  • Adaptive pedal assist
  • Smart lighting system
  • Health and fitness tracking capabilities
  • Over-the-air updates
  • Auto-adjusting TFT display

While these bikes represent exciting technological advances, potential buys should consult local regulations before considering purchase for commuting purposes. Deliveries for both models are expected to commence in February 2025.
