Tinder has officially launched Face Check, a verification tool designed to eliminate fake profiles and increase trust on the app.
Don’t worry the irony isn’t lost on me. An old dude who’s been married for 37 years writing a story about Tinder.
I may not know much about swiping left or right but I do know that Tinder has joined the ever increasing number of platforms that have, or will soon be introducing video verification to differentiate real humans from bot accounts
New Tinder users will be asked to supply a short video of themselves that will be matched against profile photos to help ensure users are who they claim to be.
The practice has already been introduced on platforms such as Facebook who insist on “Video Selfies” for suspect profiles. Even the ANZ Bank has a mandatory “Selfie ID” program to verify identities when opening new accounts.
Tinder has introduced a “Photo Verified Badge” that users will acquire once the new Face Check process has been completed. It aims to give other users confidence that the person they are conversing with is real, not a fake account designed to deceive them.
According to research conducted by the popular dating app “being verified is one of the most appealing aspects of a dating profile, with 69% of users under 30 in Australia interested in seeing verified profiles and 66% specifically interested in seeing a profile badge to indicate verified status”
According to Yoel Roth, Senior Vice President of Trust & Safety at Match Group “Face Check is arriving in Australia at a time when online authenticity has never been more important,”
The new verification process has already commenced and will be rolling out to all new Australian users soon
