Starting this weekend with the F1 race in Brazil, Aussie sports streaming service Kayo will offer fans the choice of two commentary teams to choose from as they watch the main race each weekend of the next four events.
While not noted officially by Foxtel and Kayo, the move comes as Aussie fans get frustrated with the UK commentary’s bias toward the UK Drivers, in particular Lando Norris in his battles with Oscar Piastri.
Make no mistake, Lando is doing a great job, but the lack of attention to Oscars rise through the places, his position within DRS and the talk of Lando’s new Championship lead as if he’d already won the Championship are just over the top.
I asked my audience, and across every platform where I asked, the response was overwhelming – would you watch an Alternate commentary if it was available? Yes.
Not I had hoped for an Aussie alternate commentary, a local team, featuring an Aussie race driver of some sort as well as other commentary. Not wanting a team to just talk about Oscar – not at all, just remove the UK leaning and tell us what’s happening across the grid with a Focus on Max, Oscar and Lando.
While Fox Sports hasn’t pulled that together, they have taken advantage of an already available alternative – the F1 TV commentary team.
The team includes Laura Winter, commentator Alex Jacques, and F1 correspondent Lawrence Barretto. As well as Jolyon Palmer, James Hinchcliffe, and David Coulthard.
This F1 TV commentary will be available for the Formula One races in Brazil, Las Vegas, Qatar and Abu Dhabi. Sky Sports will be the only option for Free Practice, Qualifying and Sprint sessions.
