Australia’s electric car market hits an all-new low today, in a good way, with BYD announcing their new ATTO 1 will start from $23,990 plus on roads. That’s $6,000 less than the BYD Dolphin today.
The ATTO 1 launch comes at the same time as the ATTO 2 which itself is another small to medium SUV perhaps destined to replace the original ATTO 3 which has been an outstanding launch vehicle for BYD.
ATTO 2 will launch at $31,990 plus on roads, but together it presents an outstanding value proposition to the market.
Both are built on a new generation e-Platform 3.0, and feature BYD’s Blade Battery.
The BYD ATTO 1 will be available in two variants, Essential and Premium, Essential packing a 30kWh battery, and the Premium 43.2kWh with 220 and 320km range respectively.
With that range the market for the ATTO 1 is clearly the inner city and suburban driver, not the open roads, but with strong sales of a vehicle like the Toyota Yaris there’s set to be an excellent market for the ATTO 1 with it’s striking looks and life-long cost savings.
Given the relative comparative size of the Yaris v ATTO 1 this is without question one of the first cars to really cross over into a price parity or better when comparing conventional petrol cars to fully electric cars.
Meanwhile the ATTO 2 has a 345km range out of a 51.3kWh battery, with a full charge at home on a wall charger just 8 hours.
