Apple has confirmed they have rolled out a fix for the issue affecting Telstra customers using iPhone 8, 8Plus and iPhone X after a recent software update.

After earlier this week issuing an software update across a range of devices, Apple paused all software updates due to an issue specific to Telstra customers and those older devices.

Today, Apple has recommenced most updates, except those for iPhone 8, 8 Plus and X.

However, affected Telstra customers with those devices will now have a new update that can be installed via the settings.

This is a Carrier Settings update, not a software update – users with no mobile service or data on Telstra with those three devices can follow these instructions immediately:

To get the carrier settings fix, follow the instructions below:

  1. Connect your impacted iPhone to Wi-Fi
  2. Tap Settings > General > About
  3. Accept the carrier settings fix by tapping “OK”
  4. Confirm the update installed by going to Settings > General > About and make sure it says “Telstra 54.1” next to Service Provider.

You should see cellular bars populate, be able to make calls, and use data.

In the coming days or week, we expect Apple will also recommence the roll-out of the iOS update to these three devices, to ensure they are compliant in full with the Australian Triple Zero networks.

It’s critical that, despite this outage for Telstra customers, everyone accept the iOS update that will be issued in the days ahead, let alone all future updates as they are critical for both emergency connectivity and security.
