After revealing nothing more than essentially a rolling chassis late in 2025, Ferrari has kicked off 2026 with the reveal of a few key components of the new Ferrari electric car, including the name and some of the design elements focussed right in on the driver.

Called the Ferrari Luce – with Luce being the Italian word for Light – in both the natural sense and also electrical, there’s certainly a new vibe coming from Maranello with this all-electric prancing horse.

We still don’t know what the car looks like, though a mid-sized SUV format seems likely, but what we do know now is how the driver cockpit will look – and it’s different.

With a fully digital instrument cluster sitting within a curved edged rectangular frame, there’s some clear Sir Jony Ive influence here, thanks to his company’s collaboration with Ferrari on this one. To the centre of the car a rectangular infotainment screen – also with rounded corners presents itself to the driver almost exclusively.

There are appears to be some controversial decisions in this design too – with no indicator stalks, or wipers, instead buttons on the wheel for indicators and a dial on the wheel for the wipers.

On the wheel appear to be three drive modes, Range, Tour and Performance, while that centre console also features toggle switches to control the seat heating and cooling, climate and fan speeds – so not a full digital experience (thank goodness).

It’s a minimalists dream in many ways, the air conditioning vents are simplistic yet elegant, again – clearly people new to cars have been involved here – in a good way.

Unlikely to go down well with the purists, this car – Ferrari are on record saying – isn’t meant be be designed for existing Ferrari owners, it’s for new ones and those expanding their garage.

The Luce should be revealed in all it’s full body glory by the middle of the year – we wait!
