DJI has today launched the Avata 360, capable of delivering stunning 360° footage thanks to new 1-inch-equivalent sensors that support 8K/60fps HDR video.
The new DJI Avata 360 can also be paired with DJI goggles and motion controllers for an immersive 360° flight experience. After capturing 360° footage, the updated DJI app can be used to create a video from any perspective – multiple options from a single footage capture.
The Avata 360 features two different lenses that can be switched depending on the footage you wish to capture at that moment. The 360° lens incorporates 1-inch-equivalent sensors to capture 360° imagery, while the single-lens mode enables classic Avata-style filming in 4K/60 fps. Video and photos can be exported directly or reframed in post-production using an app such as the DJI app.
The new drone uses DJI’s O4+ video transmission system to deliver live feeds of the flight back to the controller and the screen you are using. With support up to 20km away, the video is transmitted in high definition at 1080p/60 fps.
A single battery will provide up to 23 minutes of flight time, and for amateurs like me, it includes safety features such as night-scape omnidirectional obstacle sensing and integrated propeller guards to prevent damage to your drone.
Even if damaged, the lens can be replaced using the DJI Avata 360 replacement lens kit (sold separately).
Features of the new drone and post-production updates to the DJI Fly and DJI Studio apps include:
- Spotlight Free – the Avata 360 can lock onto a moving subject or a subject’s face to capture circular shots without any manual adjustments.
- ActiveTrack 360° – this feature automatically selects the optimal tracking mode to maintain a steady distance and altitude relative to the subject and their actions.
- FPV mode – this allows novice pilots to add a roll effect to other flight types. This can be applied in post-production.
- Intelligent Tracking – using advanced algorithms, the apps make it easy to lock onto and smoothly track subjects such as people, vehicles, pets and more.
The new Avata 360 allows you to perform FPV flying with ease, with compatibility with DJI remote controllers (RC 2, RC-N2, RC-N3), and, when paired with DJI goggles and motion controllers, offers a fully immersive experience with 360° imaging.
