Samsung is teasing a new display tech for their next-generation foldables, with the new displays said to be even tougher, while also minimising the crease.

The announcement previews what we’ll be seeing next week at Samsung’s Galaxy Unpacked event where they will unveil the new Galaxy Z line of foldables.

The new Flex Titanium technology will incorporate a titanium-alloy film and a titanium plate into the display balancing slimness, flexibility and strength into the foldable display.

Samsung says incorporating Titanium into the design improves resilience and strength on the display, with the titanium-alloy film and titanium plate sandwiched under the OLED panel.

A precision rolling process allows the titanium alloy to be rolled out exceptionally thin to maintain the slimness of the phone’s overall profile, while the titanium plate supports the display from beneath when folding and unfolding the display.

Sunghoon Moon, EVP and Senior Executive, Mobile R&D Office – H/W, Samsung Electronics said

Samsung’s strength in the foldable category comes from connecting user needs with our technologies that deliver tangible benefits in everyday life. For the next generation of Galaxy foldables, Samsung is building on years of expertise to bring display innovations into devices that enhance user experiences, anchored by exceptional viewing experiences.”

As well as the titanium reinforcement, the next-generation of displays will also have ‘ultra-vivid display resolution while helping to reduce power consumption — delivering a dramatic boost in overall power efficiency’, with Kyung-Jin Yoo, EVP and Head of Mobile Display Product Development Team, Samsung Display saying

By introducing sophisticated micro-patterned holes to the folding section of the titanium plate, we have successfully secured flexibility with robust durability. Combining high-resolution display architecture with new materials that helps maximise power efficiency, we will further strengthen the competitiveness of next-generation Galaxy foldable devices.”

We’ll be seeing the new displays as part of the Galaxy Unpacked event on July 22nd, and Trevor will be on the ground in London as they’re unveiled to bring you all the news and details.
