At the world’s largest video game show in Germany, Samsung have shown off their latest Odyssey gaming monitors, introducing new OLED models, as well as the new Odyssey G6 for competitive players.

The announcement of their new Odyssey range during their keynote at Gamescom, will also see Samsung showing of HDR10+ gaming as part of their partnership with Activision Blizzard, bringing richer HDR gameplay into games, including the latest Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4,  as well as showcasing their expanding expanding Odyssey 3D game support, now extending to games including  Cyberpunk 2077 and Cronos: The New Dawn.

There’s almost something for everyone here in the new Odyssey series, with the new 49” Odyssey OLED G9 leading the line-up, as well as the 42” curved OLED G7, 32-inch OLED G8, and the Odyssey G6, Samsung’s first 1,100Hz gaming monitor. 

Hun Lee, Executive Vice President of the Visual Display (VD) Business at Samsung Electronics said 

“Players come to Gamescom to discover what is next, try new games, and experience the technology they need to stay focused and compete at their best. With new form factors, higher refresh rates, and advanced display technologies, the 2027 Odyssey lineup gives players more choice across competitive play, cinematic games, and multi-purpose setups.”  

The new Odyssey OLED G9 is Samsung’s first 49-inch DQHD (5120 x 1440) resolution gaming monitor with 360Hz refresh rate.

The fifth-generation QD-OLED panel inside uses Penta Tandem technology to enhance  efficiency, lifespan, and luminosity of the panel, while offering high-performance 0.03 ms GtG response time.

The monitor includes Dual Mode support, letting players play with Dual QHD resolution at 360 Hz offering a wide, high-resolution view or they can switch to Dual HD (2560 x 720) resolution at up to 720 Hz for higher performance. 

Samsung’s Odyssey OLED G8 brings UHD resolution OLED gaming to the party, pairing a QD-OLED quality panel with fluid gameplay and Triple Mode support. 

The Triple Mode support will let players switch between UHD (3840 x 2160) resolution at 360Hz, Quad HD (2560 x 1440) resolution at 520 Hz or a blisteringly fast 680Hz at Full HD (1920×1080) resolution. 

The display includes ‘Glare Free’ technology, improving on Samsung’s anti-reflection film, and includes both AMD FreeSync and NVIDIA G-Sync compatibility. 

There’s DisplayPort 2.1 UHBR20, as well as dual HDMI ports on the rear, with Samsung including a USB-C port with 98 W Power Delivery for charging and a USB hub with two downstream ports, and KVM support. 

The Odyssey OLED G7 brings a new category for Samsung as their first 42” 16:9 curved OLED gaming monitor. 

The monitor has a 1000R curvature to bring the edges of gameplay back into your field of vision, with 4K resolution gaming at 165Hz refresh rate at 0.03ms Grey-to-Grey response. 

Lastly, the Odyssey G6 will push competitive gamers, offering Game Play at a blisteringly fast 1,100Hz.

The 27-inch Odyssey G6 is Samsung’s first 1,100 Hz gaming monitor which they say has been ‘built  for FPS players who place speed and motion clarity first’. 

The monitor was first introduced at CES earlier this year with a 1,040Hz refresh rate – but the final product will let players hit the 1100Hz mark at 720p / HD resolution, or switch to 600Hz refresh in Quad HD (2560 x 1440) resolution.

At this stage Samsung hasn’t announced local availability or pricing, but we’ll get that as we get closer to launch.
