Valve has announced their long-awaited Steam Frame VR headset will be launching soon, with the pricing announced and orders starting soon.

The Steam Frame was first announced alongside the Steam Controller and Steam Machine last November, with those two launching throughout 2026. It’s finally the Steam Frame’s turn, with pre-orders going live on Thu, September 17, 2026 10:00 AM PDT – that’s 3am this Friday, the 18th of September. 

You’ll need to register for a pre-order, with the system designed to keep resellers from snapping up all stock, with Valve saying

“We found the reservation system to be helpful with the launch of Steam Machine by improving the purchase experience and limiting resellers, and are implementing it once again for Steam Frame.”

Once you register, the list of people interested will be randomised to determine waitlist order. Emails to the first successful reservations will be sent out with a link to purchase the Steam Frame will be sent out on September 18th. 

Powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor with 16GB of DDR5 RAM, the Steam Frame comes in two different storage configurations, 256GB or 1TB, priced at $1,609 AUD and $1,969 AUD respectively

The only thing that doesn’t seem to be included is the power supply, with a 45W PSU priced at $49 AUD is available – or you can just use any USB-C power supply – or your Steam Deck charger. 

While the deal is attractive to anyone looking at VR, the unit also includes a copy of Valve’s Half-Life: Alyx, available via redemption once you login to your new Steam Frame. 

There’s also a couple of accessory packers available as extras. 

There’s an Ergonomic accessories kit available for $99 AUD, which includes two controller hand straps/battery doors, a headset top strap and extended light blocker, or an Accessory Replacement Kit  including a face gasket, head cushion and a standard light blocker for $89.
