After teasing it back in June, Microsoft unveiled the Surface Laptop Ultra during their dedicated Windows and Surface event overnight.

The Surface Ultra promises to be one of the most powerful Surface laptops Microsoft has released.

Powered by the NVIDIA RTX Spark platform, incorporating an NVIDIA Blackwell RTX GPU, NVIDIA Grace CPU with up to 128 GB of unified memory.

The laptop promises fast, on-device AI processing, keeping your data locally by using the NVIDIA CUDA platform, and Windows AI stack and capable of running AI models ‘exceeding 120B parameters locally, with up to 1 petaflop of AI performance’.

The laptop will weigh in at around 2kg, with a new thermal architecture able to maintain performance, all in a chassis less than 18 mm thin.

A 15” PixelSense Ultra touch display is included, capable of HDR peak brightness up to 2,000 nits, with integrated speakers – and a battery capable of up to 15 hours of local video playback.

Microsoft will be offering the Surface Laptop Ultra in a number of configs, with up to 1TB of M.2 SSD storage – which Microsoft says is ‘user-removable’ offering upgrade options in the future.

The Surface Laptop Ultra is the first to feature a new Microsoft hardware feature – Magnetic Connect, the world’s first built-in magnetic USB-C charging on a laptop.

Joining the Magnetic Connect connector will be additional USB-C ports, as well as USB-A and HDMI 2.1 out, audio jack and full-sized SD card reader.

You can pre-order the Microsoft Surface Laptop Ultra for $4,399 from Microsoft, with orders expected to start landing from October 16th.
