Valentino Rossi, one of the greatest motorbike racers of all time, has just come off his worst season in the premier category, MotoGP. Despite no wins in his debut season with Ducati, the Italian still wants to extend his contract, but admits touring car racing has him sucked in.

The 32-year-old seven time champion has told Autosport that, despite focusing on extending his Ducati contract, which expires at the end of this year, touring car racing is also something he is desperate to do.

“I am a great fan of cars, and I had two occasions to try the Mercedes DTM in 2006,” said Rossi. “It is a fantastic car, one of the nost fun cars I have ever driven, so I would love to do races in DTM – but these are projects to talk about when I finish motorbikes.”

Although he only mentions the DTM, V8 Supercars and prestige events such as the Bathurst 1000 or Gold Coast 600 could enter the fray. V8 Supercars’ Car of the Future will bring the series much closer in line with that of the DTM. Indeed, rumours have been circulating that the Car of the Future could potentially lure manufacturers such as BMW and Mercedes, who already race in the DTM, to V8 Supercars.

It’s all very much up in the air for Rossi in terms of 2013 and beyond, but one thing is for sure, it would be amazing to see “The Doctor” around Mount Panorama.
