New Book: Rosso’s “Car of the Day” – the EFTM Review

Publishing has come a long way since Gutenberg’s printing press in the 1400’s, in 2015 we’ve got paperback, hardback, e-books, iBooks all of which is making publishing both easier and more competitive at the same time.  EFTM has obtained a copy of one of the most innovative publications in many years – Rosso’s Car of the Day.

Rosso calls it a ‘zine, because it doesn’t carry the weight of a book, nor the frequency of a daily.  Instead, this self-published “booklet” harks back to the days of school printing.

While not referenced in the publication, it feels like 80 GSM paper, possibly reflex, with a grayscale print from a Xerox or Canon mass copier.

Shunning the modern layout and design systems on high-end Mac publishing systems, “Car of the Day” appears to use a mixture of scissor on print out, sticky-tape, artline pen and Instagram print-outs cobbled together into a 16 page featurette.

Rosso loves his cars, and having shared his classic car of the day regularly on Instagram over a period of time, the persistent feedback from his almost 10,000 Instagram followers was demand for a publication to rival the best coffee-table books available today.

This sits alongside Kramer’s coffee-table coffee-table book.

Featuring Rosso’s trademark thoughts on no less than 12 vehicles (no more than 12 either), it’s an insight into the mind of Rosso, as well as a stroll down memory lane into the deep recesses of your memory, where you keep cars like the Camira or Hyundai Excel.

Already in its third print photocopy run Car of The Day is available for $9.50, and you have the choice of Standard Free Shipping or Free Shipping, choose carefully.

Shop online at Man About the House alongside a couple of other publications which appear on the face of things to have lower production values than this ‘zine.
