Ok Victoria, You’ve got the Formula 1 and the Boxing Day Test match, I’ll give you that – but the schedules don’t lie – in 2016 NSW has more major sporting events than Victoria.

It’s a long time rivalry and the team at Sportsyear have crunched the data.  Sportsyear has been compiling sports fixtures since 2003 into their annual Sportswear Diary.

Aussie sports coaching and management icon Bob Turner who works with the team at SportsYear said “We’ve crunched the numbers from every possible angle and the figures don’t lie, New South Wales is clearly the top seed with it comes to hosting major sporting events in Australia for 2016,” Bob Turner from Sportsyear said.

“I must admit, even I was surprised by the result given Victoria has always been regarded as the national leader when it comes to hosting sport in this country,” Turner added.

And didn’t the politicians jump on it too – Minister for Trade, Tourism and Major Events and Minister for Sport Stuart Ayres chimed in saying “Many of these events are staples of the New South Wales sporting calendar, and others we have worked extremely hard to secure through the tireless work of the State’s tourism and major events agency Destination NSW”
