wireless charging is slower than plugged in, just like plugged in via a laptop is slower than being plugged in direct to the wall. Its all about, as Jeremy Clarkson would say… POWER.

The iphone wireless charging is capped at 7.5W, but would be slower if plugged into a 5W wall adaptor.

Noting that while apple did talk up the fast charging capabilities (not wireless) of the new iphone (50% in 30min), this is not achievable out of the box. You need one of apples USB-C power adaptors and a Type-C to lightning cable. The adaptors are the ones that come with the new macbooks, the smallest being 29W.

The wireless charging power delivery has been slowly increasing over time, current standard allows 15W, so its getting better.
