For a couple of weeks now I’ve been dipping my toe into the world of Telstra TV. This is basically a set-top box that turns any TV into a smart TV, with every streaming service you can think of available. But one of the caveats has been that you needed to have a Telstra broadband connection to fully take advantage of the system.
I’m a Telstra mobile customer but I use another ISP. This would normally mean that I would be locked out of some features, most importantly free-to-air TV via the in-built tuner. Thankfully the good people at Telstra gave my box special access so I could offer up a review.
But the good news is today the telco has announced all eligible mobile customers will now receive all the benefits I have. More than 1.4 million Telstra TV’s now sit in Aussie lounge rooms enjoying the likes of catch up TV, Foxtel Now, Netflix, Stan, Kayo Sports, Telstra TV Box Office, Hayu, Animelab, Garage Entertainment and DocPlay.
Customers can choose to buy a Telstra TV outright or elect to go for a 24-month plan. I’ll have a review on the new Telstra TV 3 soon, in fact I plan to binge some content this weekend.
Right now, if you buy a Telstra TV you get a bonus $125 TV Box Office credit which equates to around 20 rentals.
Buying the third generation Telstra TV will cost $216 outright or $9 a month over 24 months. But once again just a reminder you need to be an existing Telstra postpaid mobile customer, so me basically.
The Telstra TV Box Office credit must be redeemed by 26/08/19 and expires after 24 months.
But at the end of the day this is great news if you’re a Telstra mobile customer and want to smarten up your TV viewing experience.
