A new Ford Performance Fiesta ST will arrive in early 2020. The new-generation model will also be offered in a five-door configuration for the first time. This will result in more real estate inside for one of my favourite pocket rockets!
Up front will be a new all-aluminium 147kW/290Nm three-cylinder petrol turbo, matched to a six-speed manual. Trust me you don’t want an auto in this car! The car will come loaded with technology including AEB with Pedestrian Detection, Launch Control, a Quaife Mechanical Limited-Slip Differential (LSD) and various Drive Modes. All standard, it has already been awarded a five-star safety rating from Euro NCAP.
Leo Roeks, Director, Ford Performance Europe, said, “Every performance function of this car has been enhanced with innovation,” said “Drivers need look no further than the Fiesta ST to understand what Ford means when we explain that ST stands for Sports Technologies.”
Crunching the numbers under the bonnet reveals Ford’s 1.5-litre EcoBoost petrol engine delivers [email protected] 290Nm of torque spread between 1600-4000rpm. Incidentally this is the first three-cylinder Ford Performance engine.
The first five-door Fiesta ST will also include Apple CarPlay and Android Auto as standard. The SYNC 3ii system is displayed via an 8.0-inch touchscreen and is joined by a Ford Performance 4.2-inch instrumentation cluster.
You can rock on via a 10-speaker B&O Sound system that can also pipe out DAB radio.
Prices for the Ford Fiesta ST start from $31,990 while Ford Performance options such $650 Prestige Paint and a $2500 Panoramic sunroof that opens will drain your bank account a tad more.
Let’s hope the bigger ST doesn’t lose its legendary agility with its newfound size.
