How do you say that? Google brings pronunciation help to Search

Epitome, quokka, Oodnadatta, paradigm, pneumonoultramicroscopicsilicovolcanoconiosis. How do you pronounce these words? Well, Google’s new pronunciation feature coming to search will help you do just that.

Google will begin rolling out the new pronunciation feature from today, helping travellers, people learning a language and just people searching, to find out exactly how you say that word.

The feature will offer a pronunciation option for searches on English words with Search using Google’s Speech Recognition and Machine Learning technology to let you attempt to say the word. You’ll see a phonetically spelt out version of the word, and once you’ve attempted it, will receive instant feedback on your attempt.

Google is rolling out the feature for American English today, though they will soon offer Spanish. It’s not stopping at US English and Spanish though with Google advising that they will expand this feature to include ‘more languages, accents and regions in the future’.

I spent many years mispronouncing words before being corrected, now you can check out those curly words in private before showing off your expanded vocabulary in public. It’s a neat feature that expands the already full feature set of Google Search, try it out and see what you think.
