Today is World EV Day and no, that doesn’t mean you’re banned from the roads in your gas-guzzling piece of Automotive history. But, it does allow us all to stop down and think – will your next car be an EV?
ABB has joined in a campaign to call on people to make a pledge that their next car will be an EV and across the world within all the signups Australians make up 3 percent of those pledges thus far.
Since we first started reporting on electric cars the industry has come a long way, but there’s a long way still to go.
Last year EV sales in Australia were up 200% in a market where car sales were down almost 8%. However, their actual numbers are just a drop in the ocean of the overall sales – EV sales accounting for just 0.6% of new car sales in Australia in 2019.
But, in a recent survey on the State of Electric Vehicles by the Electric Vehicle Council of Australia, 56% of people said they would consider an EV as their next car.
Speaking about World EV day, Tarak Mehta, President of ABB Electrification said “Today marks an important milestone in the history of e-mobility with the world’s first EV Day. As headline partner, ABB is delighted to see so many individuals from around the globe taking positive action by signing the pledge.
“At ABB we are committed to inspiring drivers towards a sustainable electric future. As such we have launched an ABB fleet electrification pilot program, starting in the UK and with other countries including the Netherlands set to follow.”
So, what say you – will your next car be Electric?
