Supermarkets are doing good business selling everything from insurance to mobile phone plans, but this week Coles steps it up a gear partnering with Boost Mobile to launch refurbished iPhone sales over the counter.
For just $259 you can buy an iPhone 7 32GB from Coles. Inside the box is a $10 Boost Mobile SIM to get you started if you need a new mobile plan too.
These phones are not brand new, they are not from the factory. Instead they are trade-ins from all around the world, each one meticulously put through a 72 point check to get them ready to sell.
If they are cracked or broken, they’re recycled, but if they can be buffed clean, and their data wiped they make the grade for sale as a refurbished device.
And it’s not just the hardware and software, Boost Mobile checks national police lost and stoled databases to check you’re not buying hot goods.
Once buffed and polished they are restored ready to use, packaged up in a Boost Mobile box and for the first time they are on-sale at Coles Supermarkets from this Wednesday across the country except for Victoria and Queensland (they will come later).
Coles General Manager Non-Food, Jonathan Torr told EFTM “Coles has had a strong mobile phone offering for many years, and this partnership with Boost to offer quality refurbished smartphones is another great way we can deliver value for our customers in a more sustainable way,”
Boost’s outspoken founder Peter Adderton says “Australians are looking for cost-effective options more than ever before and we are excited that, after being the first to market last year, we can now partner with another trusted Aussie brand in Coles to take refurbished smartphones mainstream like never before!”
“At Boost Mobile our mission is to find value for our customers and provide them with solutions that best suit their needs. The bundle comes with a $10 Boost Mobile introductory SIM, but savvy customers will then recharge with a Boost Long Expiry recharge such as the $200, which will give them 100GB of data plus unlimited talk and text within Oz, to use over 12mths. That gives you an iPhone and 12mths of great service inclusions on Australia’s biggest network for $459.”
The phones come with a 12 month warranty, and that introductory price of $259 won’t last long, after which they will be $299.
