Making your next ‘buy now, pay later’ purchase through Afterpay will be easier now, with the company announcing you can now Tap’n’Pay with the Afterpay app anywhere it’s accepted in-store.
The new method simplifies in-store payments, with Afterpay users previously able to purchase in-store using a barcode generated from the app for payment. To use the new Tap’n’Pay option, Afterpay customers simply tap the card icon in the Afterpay app, and then pay by simply tapping on the payment terminal at checkout.
Afterpay is using Google Pay or Apple Pay to facilitate payments, so you’ll need to set either of those up to complete a purchase on Afterpay. Once setup, a virtual Mastercard will appear in your Google Pay or Apple Pay app.
Co-CEO and Co-Founder of Afterpay, Nick Molnar is excited for the evolution of Afterpay’s in-store offering, saying
“Over the past five years we have built a strong in-store offering, with tens of thousands of merchants currently offering Afterpay in-store in Australia. The new Afterpay virtual card, which will sit in a customers digital wallet, is an evolution of our offering, making it even easier for millions of our Australian customers to split their in-store payments in four instalments without incurring interest – ever.”
Purchases made using the Afterpay in-store tap’n’pay option will automatically be placed on the usual repayment plan, which has the customer paying the first payment at checkout, then three subsequent payments, every two weeks.
If you’ve never signed up for Afterpay, or any of the competing services, the process is simple and fast. You’ll need to supply some personal details, and when complete you’ll find an approved amount you can spend in your Afterpay dashboard in the app, or on their site. This amount grows as you make payments on-time, or diminishes if you default.
While you could purchase in-store previously, it’s sometimes a hassle using barcode systems. Offloading the heavy lifting to a virtual Mastercard in your digital wallet is a great idea for Afterpay. You can check out more about Afterpay Card on their website now.
