We loved the Suunto 7 when we checked it out last year and overnight Suunto have announced their next flagship smartwatch that is heading to Australia — the Suunto 9 Peak. We are not sure what happened to 8 but the 9 Peak looks to continue on with the high quality smartwatch that Suunto have become renowned for.
The Suunto 9 Peak is stunning in its design — built by grade 5 titanium for a lighter weight and thus greater comfort. The Suunto 9 Peak is their thinnest, most powerful and durable watch to date, designed to accompany you on all measure of adventures and experiences.
With over 170 hours of GPS recording capacity it also houses blood oxygen measurement sensors and a capability of charging its battery from empty to full in just one hour. Of course there are all the usual sports modes included (more than 80 in fact) with sports such as running, hiking, mountain biking, skiing and swimming all featured. For those who like to set up the watchfaces themselves there are also customisable screens to show the data you want it to.
Other notable features include an intelligent battery monitoring system with automatic backlight intensity adjustment, wrist-based heart rate monitoring, in-depth weather insights and on-watch navigation capabilities.
“We found that many people wanted all the features of the Suunto 9 Baro, but in a smaller, streamlined form factor, without compromising on battery life or the feature set. Our team of designers and engineers worked closely together to develop Suunto 9 Peak as an answer to this need,” says Heikki Norta, Suunto’s president.
The Suunto app has also been improved allowing users to discover new locations, create points of interest and the ability to look back on previous adventures with personal heatmaps. The addition of Bluetooth 5 to the watch has also improved the speed that it syncs with the app.
The Suunto 9 Peak will be available in two different styles with four nature inspired colours:
Granite Blue Titanium and Birch White Titanium, made with sapphire glass and grade 5 titanium and All Black and Moss Gray, made with sapphire glass and stainless steel.
At this stage local pricing, availability and colours are unknown but you can be sure we will be checking it out in person when it lands Downunder.
