Nintendo fans are getting a new Switch later this year, with the announcement of the new Nintendo Switch (OLED model).

The Nintendo Switch (OLED model) will launch October 8th, and sell for AU$539.95 RRP. The new Nintendo Switch (OLED model) will feature a larger 7” OLED panel, an upgrade from the 6.2” LCD panel on the original, though the resolution will remain at 720p.

The console will still support 1080p playback through a TV using the new dock, which also now features an ethernet port and improved audio.

Nintendo hasn’t made any changes to the Custom NVIDIA Tegra processor inside the Switch OLED though they have increased on-board storage from 32GB to 64GB. You’ll also still get between 4.5-9 hours of battery life.

Despite the larger display, the form factor remains the same and Nintendo advises that all previously released Joy-Con controllers for Nintendo Switch are compatible with this new model. And of course the new Switch (OLED model) is compatible with the full library of Nintendo Switch games.

The new Nintendo Switch will launch October 8th in two options:

  • White Joy-Con controllers, a black main unit and a white dock
  • Neon Red and Neon Blue Joy-Con controllers, a black main unit and a black dock.

For anyone looking for accessories, Nintendo says you’ll be able to nab an extra case and screen protector for $29.95.

While there’s no 4K update (boo), the new Switch (OLED model) will definitely give a bump in terms of rich video quality. We’ll be checking the new Nintendo Switch (OLED Model) out when it launches later this year.
