After announcing their latest totally wireless earbuds, the Pixel Buds A-Series in June, Google is launching them in Australia today with sales starting from August 25th.

The Pixel Buds A-Series are available to pre-order in ‘Clearly White’ from the Google Store for $159 from today.

The new model is cheaper than the Pixel Buds 2 which launched in Australia last year, and while it shares the same design and charging case, they do lose some of the features to meet the more budget friendly price.

The earbuds are the same size and shape as the previous model, with the same soft “stabilizer arc” fin that rests inside your ear to keep the buds seated more firmly in your ear. There’s also the usual trio of differently sized silicon tips to help ensure a snug fit, though a spatial vent helps prevent pressure build up so they don’t feel uncomfortable. The buds are also water resistant with an IPX4 rating, though the case doesn’t.

The buds have the same five hours of battery life with a further 19 in the charging case, but the case no longer supports wireless charging. There’s still a USB-C port for charging in base and the case comes in a lovely soft touch plastic which feels great and opens and closes with the same satisfying snap.

The buds can still be tapped to control your music, calls and even the Google Assistant though you can no longer swipe to control volume.

Google hasn’t included ANC with these new buds, however they have included Adaptive Sound which intelligently raises and decreases the volume in tune with ambient noise. They won’t include Attention Alerts though, which feature on the Pixel Buds alerting you to important ambient sounds such as babies crying, smoke alarms or a dog barking.

There are some improvements on the last model, with Google now connecting both buds to your phone instead of routing through a single bud. This should resolve any issues which were reported on the Pixel Buds gen 2.

Google has again gone for a 12mm driver inside the Pixel Buds which they say will ‘deliver rich, high-quality audio no matter what you’re listening to’. The buds include a Bass Boost in the control app, which is directly built into Android and they connect using Google’s Fast Pair system for super easy connection to Android phones.

Google will also begin selling accessories for the Pixel Buds in Australia with the Tech21 EvoSlim case for Pixel Buds A-Series showing on the store for $24.99, while the Comply Premium Foam Tips for Pixel Buds A-Series will sell for $29.99.

You can pre-order the buds on the Google Store now, with the buds also due to arrive at JB Hi-Fi, Harvey Norman, and Officeworks.
