Rockstar Games is releasing Grand Theft Auto III Definitive edition later this year for PC and consoles

This year marks the 20th anniversary of the launch of GTA III. To mark the occasion Rockstar Games has today confirmed the existence of Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition which will launch on all current gen consoles, including the Nintendo Switch, as well as on mobile next year.

The Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition, which includes Grand Theft Auto III, Grand Theft Auto: Vice City, and Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas will arrive ‘later this year’ says Rockstar Games.

The game will be available on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch and PC through the Rockstar Games launcher, with Rockstar saying the games will have ‘graphical improvements and modern gameplay enhancements for all three titles, while still maintaining the classic look and feel of the originals.

Rockstar has also confirmed that a mobile version will be available on Android and iOS in ‘the first half of 2022’.

To prep for the game, Rockstar announced they would begin removing existing versions of the games from digital app stores starting next week. This will only affect new purchases of the games, with those who’ve already purchased the games on those platforms still able to ‘download and play them on their respective purchase platforms’.

So far there’s been no mention of any new sequels such as Grand Theft Auto VI, with Rockstar set to release a remastered version of Grand Theft Auto V later this year, a game which first launched in 2013.

We’re big fans of the open-world genre games, so we can’t wait to visit the GTA III world again with the titular characters from each of the GTA III based games when they launch in the next few months. Until then, we’re just going to settle in and finish this Far Cry 6 campaign.
