Sony has announced a new loyalty program for Playstation overnight, called Playstation Stars encouraging users to engage more with games and earn points in the process.
The Playstation Stars program will launch globally later this year and will be open to all Playstation players. The program will let players earn loyalty points and other rewards including digital collectibles by ‘completing a variety of campaigns and activities’.
The campaigns will include a variety of options from a “Monthly Check-In” campaign which will simply require you to play any game, through to more competitive campaigns which will require you to ‘win tournaments, earn specific trophies, or even be the first player to platinum a blockbuster title in your local time zone’. Playstation Plus members will also be able to earn points for purchases on PlayStation Store.
Loyalty points will be able to be redeemed in a catalogue, with rewards including PSN Wallet credit to let you purchase products from the Playstation Store.
Sony will also reward players with Digital Collectibles, a new form of reward which they say are ‘digital representations of things that PlayStation fans enjoy, including figurines of beloved and iconic characters from games and other forms of entertainment, as well as cherished devices that tap into Sony’s history of innovation’.
The program will open later this year, with Sony promising more details closer to the launch.
