Ahead of their Made by Google event to show off the Pixel 7 phones and PIxel Watch on Friday morning, Google has announced a refresh of their Nest Wifi mesh routers, with the new Nest Wifi Pro with Wi-Fi 6E Support.

The new Nest Wifi Pro, like its predecessors, is a mesh networking system designed to let you blanket your home in good quality Wifi, without having to cable your house. The big news for Nest Wifi Pro is the inclusion of Wi-Fi 6E support, which adds the new less congested 6GHz band to the existing 2.4/5GHz bands normally reserved for Wifi.

The router has been given a bit of a facelift since the last release with the new models sporting a ‘beautiful high gloss finish inspired by ceramics’. The Nest Wifi Pro will be made available in the US in four natural earth tones: Snow, Linen, Fog and Lemongrass – but no word on what will be made available when it launches here In Australia.

Google has also ensured smart home setup is a breeze with the Nest Wifi Pro able to operate as a Thread border router to allow you to setup all your Thread smart devices. The Nest Wifi Pro will also support Matter when it launches, turning into a Matter Hub, letting you connect all manner of smart devices to your network with ease.

All of the setup and control is done through the Google Home app – available for Android and iOS. The Google Home app lets you see all the devices connected to your network. The app has family controls for blocking unsafe content, or just pausing connectivity so you can have a quiet family dinner or get the kids to bed without competition.

Google has revamped the hardware from the previous Nest Wifi, offering dual gigabit ethernet ports for connecting to existing hardwired devices or switches to make connecting your devices easy.

Google is launching Nest Wifi Pro in single, double or triple packs in the US, with a single puck able to cover around 200m2. At this stage Google hasn’t released any Australian availability or release dates, but we’ll update with any information Google has to share.
