Over at CES 2023 in Las Vegas Belkin has doubled down on their commitment to the environment with a new way to build their products.

Belkin had already committed to become 100% carbon neutral in scope 1 and 2 emissions by 2025 and is committed to continue reviewing their entire business to attempt to reduce plastic usage.  So far, they have seen an up to 90% reduction in plastic usage in some products.

The new commitment involves Belkin replacing the product housing on some of their more popular products to a housing that consists of 73-75% post-consumer recycled plastics (PCR) and includes plastic-free packaging.

This transition to new product housings will be rolled out over this year and will save the planet 7,000 metric tons of carbon emissions and reduce CO2-eq emissions by 67%.

“When we think about the difference a company of our size and influence can make on the planet, moving away from using virgin plastics in our products is an obvious decision,” said Steve Malony, CEO, Belkin. “I am proud to work alongside the teams that made this shared vision a reality. Their dedication to doing the right thing inspires me and together, we will continue to work towards a more sustainable future.”

The first products to ship with the new PCR housings will be:

·       Magnetic Car Vent Mount

·       BOOST↑CHARGE™ USB-C PD 3.0 PPS Wall Charger 25W

·       BOOST↑CHARGE™ Dual USB-C PD Wall Charger 40W

·       BOOST↑CHARGE™ PRO 4-Port GaN Charger 108W

·       BOOST↑CHARGE PRO Dual USB-C® GaN Wall Charger with PPS 65W

Although the housings will be new, consumers will most likely not be able to discern any difference between the current Belkin products and the Belkin PCR products.  They will though be able to see the unmissable call-outs on the packaging (and on the online product pages) such as “Made with Recycled Plastic Products” and “100% Plastic Free Packaging.”

Be on the lookout for these new more environmentally responsible products from Belkin in the coming months.
