Kia EV9 three-row electric SUV revealed ahead of global launch

Kia is pushing quickly ahead with it’s EV model range expansion, today revealing images of the soon to be launched EV9, the first three-row all-electric SUV for the brand.

There aren’t many all-electric SUV’s at all, but with the category topping sales charts for familes in Australia let alone the popularity of SUVs globally it’s a critical segment to bring into the electric revolution.

Kia’s head of Global Design Karim Habib says “The Kia EV9 breaks new ground, aiming to redefine standards for design, connectivity, usability and environmental responsibility,”

Adding “The Kia EV9 offers customers an exceptionally high-quality proposition and a fresh EV perspective in the family SUV sector. This new vehicle typology provides instinctive experiences and excellent comfort for not just the driver, but all occupants, through innovative use of space, technology and design.

The flat-floor style architecture in a modern EV allows for a greater interior space inside an SUV including in this case third row seating.

Outside, theres very little like it in the market. A bold square design, which Kia is calling the EV9’s “signature” “Digital Tiger Face” has a solid futuristic look and feel.

All around it are clean lines with shapes pushing the lines to their end point and all seemingly working together for a very well sorted look.

Inside the model shown appears to be a six seater, and likely that’s intentional for a luxury market, with “seven seats” rarely used by even families, a comfortable six seats is a smarter visual representation of what the car can offer, though it will also be offered in a seven seat format.

First and second row seats can both recline to relax while charging, something you might need to do if we assume it has one heck of a battery to carry that load – those details won’t come until launch.

Second row seats also swivel 180 degrees for a second and third row interaction if desired.

Up front there is a floating panoramic dashboard with two 12.3 inch screens and smaller five inch display between them for what appear tob e climate controls.

This release of images is a tease, in a big way, ahead of a global premiere late this month in which all the product info will be made available.

What will the Kia EV9 cost in Australia?

Tell ’em their dreaming I think will be the situation. This will unquestionably be the most expensive Kia ever sold, with the EV6 hitting $80K+ this Kia EV9 is set to be well into the $100,000 mark.

The price of progress perhaps.
