Logitech PRO X SUPERLIGHT 2 DEX Gaming Mouse Review: The Right mouse in the right hand

The recent Logitech LogiPlay event in Paris showcased the latest in gaming accessories from the consumer through to the Pro level gamers including a new ergo version of the PRO X SUPERLIGHT 2, designed for right-handed players.

Called the PRO X SUPERLIGHT 2 DEX, the new mouse offers an asymmetrical take on Logitech’s already popular – and super light – Pro X Superlight 2 model which Scott checked out last year. Logitech says this new model has been ‘crafted for total right-hand control and dexterity – so we see where the ‘Dex’ add-on comes from.

The Pro X Superlight 2 Dex sits almost alongside the original in the Logitech online store, and spec wise, they’re essentially a match – though the Pro X Superlight 2 launched last year.

The mouse uses Logitech’s LIGHTSPEED Wireless connection, which when combined with the Hero 2 Sensor, allows for polling between mouse and receiver at 8KHz – that’s 8,000 times per second, making for extreme accuracy and low-latency.

The mouse also includes the Logitech LightForce Switches offering optical sensing for instant actuation.
I’ve been using the Pro X Superlight 2 Dex gaming mouse for a couple of weeks and here’s how it went.

Hardware and Design

As a righty – this mouse is SUPER comfortable to hold. It’s got a little more booty for my palm grip, making it easier to hold overall. While it’s comfortable for me, Logitech have said they improved the right handed ergonomics for both claw and palm grip types – and from my observations it’s great.

The first thing you’ll notice about the mouse is that it’s super light to hold – that naming really does live up to the product, but the build quality feels great with everything solid in the hand and clicking nicely.

It’s so light you’ll probably think it’s a dummy unit at first. Like most people, I expect a little heft in my wireless mouse, so it takes your mind a few minutes to wrap your head around that this lightweight unit includes the batteries and all these new sensors.

The mouse also includes PTFE feet on the base – along with an additional PTFE covered removable cover for the dongle storage and a power button. These low-friction pads, combined with the lightweight body make it feel like almost nothing when you’re pushing the mouse around the desk.

There’s left and right mouse buttons on the top using the Lightforce switches, with the scroll wheel between them and two thumb buttons on the left side for Forwards/Backwards.

In terms of ergonomics as a righty, simply placing your hand on the mouse feels ‘right’ – so a big thumbs up to the Logitech designers here.

The mouse comes in three colour choices: Black, White and Pink. While I’m ready to rock the Pink, Logitech has sent over the Black model, and like anything it looks sleek, with the Logitech ‘G’ logo emblazoned on the palm rest in white, and a subtle white highlighting around the scroll wheel.

The mouse comes with a USB-A to USB-C cable, and receiver extension adapter with a USB-A on one end and USB-C on the other, as well as some optional 3M Grip tape for the mouth, a cleaning cloth, a replacment cover for the dongle on the base and of course, some manuals and paperwork.

Battery and Charging

In terms of battery  life, the PRO X SUPERLIGHT 2 DEX Gaming Mouse can last up to 95 hours, says Logitech – to be honest, I haven’t managed to kill the battery despite using it as my main mouse for almost three weeks now.

The only real setting you could change would be in the resolution of the HERO Sensor or wireless refresh rate in settings to astronomical rates – which, if you need them, more power (Hah) to you, but at a default 800DPI and 1000Hz wireless refresh rate, it seems a good balance.

In terms of charging, there’s a USB-C port on the front of the mouse, but the charging speed is fast! You can plug the mouse in while you charge though, so you’ll never lose time leaving it charging – and simply have to bear the indignity of being wired for a little less than an hour.

There’s one further factor when it comes to the PRO X SUPERLIGHT 2 DEX Gaming Mouse – the Logitech PowerPlay mat. Sold separately for $229.99, the Logitech PowerPlay mat is a wireless charging accessory for your mouse. It supports a few Logitech mice so far, and the PRO X SUPERLIGHT 2 DEX Gaming Mouse  is the latest.

I don’t have the mat to test, but if you do, this is an easy one.

Using it

The Logitech PRO X SUPERLIGHT 2 DEX Gaming Mouse is great to use. As above it’s simply light as a feather and has almost no resistance when moving it around the desk.

The response is fantastic. Between the 8KHz polling from the LightSpeed connection, to the 888 inches per second speed with acceleration over 88G (Insert 88MPH Delorean GIF) – the mouse just feels fast!

All that is to say this thing is fast, light as a feather and responsive to move.

On the button front, the LIGHTFORCE switches are phenomenally good, offering a solid, satisfying – and fast – click no matter what. The scroll wheel works well with a satisfying clicking as you scroll, and you can use it as a third mouse button.

I did mostly use the Optical Only option for the switches, but tried the hybrid model and found no discernible difference. Technically the hybrid option will use less power, though will have higher latency than the higher performance optical switches – but that battery lasts a long time.

Logitech G Hub

The Logitech G Hub software is your gateway to unlocking the custom settings for your mouse. It’s mostly aimed at mouse sensitivity in terms of dpi resolution – the default 800dpi is more than responsive enough for me, but you can also choose between hybrid and Optical only for your switches and set up macros if you want.

You can also update your mouse and the Superlight Dongle as well from the G Hub software to ensure you’re up to date.

Should You Buy It?

The Logitech PRO X SUPERLIGHT 2 DEX is a must buy for any gamers who want an ultra-light, responsive gaming mouse – as long as you’re right handed.

The Logitech Pro X Superlight 2 also exists, and is a more symmetrical design for use in either hand. It’s also got essentially the same hardware setup as the right-handed DEX edition.

Overall, it’s a very good improvement for right handed users, with the redesigned Lightspeed and Hero2 sensors offering excellent connectivity and response.

You can check the Logitech PRO X SUPERLIGHT 2 DEX Gaming Mouse on the Logitech website.
