While most earbuds appearing in the market are trying their hardest to seal you off from outside noise with noise cancellation and ear-canal hugging designs, Shokz continues to swim against the current with their new OpenFit 2 announced at CES 2025. These earbuds are for people that want to stay connected to their surroundings while enjoying music or taking phone calls. These are perfect for cyclists, runners or even just people that don’t like the feeling of having their ears plugged.

Building on the success of their original OpenFit design, which we reviewed last year, these second generation earbuds still sit above your ear canal. But they come with some serious audio upgrades, including DualBoost Technology – basically squeezing two speakers into each earbud. One handles the base, while the other takes care of all the mids and highs.

Using a nickel-titanium alloy in the earhooks, they’ve created something that moulds to your ear shape to ensure they stay put. Weighing at just 9.4 grams each, you’ll barely notice you’re wearing them.

They have also sorted out the control system, combining physical buttons with touch controls, so you’re less likely to skip music tracks. The dual mics in each bud mean you can take calls without the contamination of wind noise when outdoors.

Battery life is claimed to be 11 hours of continuous use with a further 37 hours from the charging case, this is at the higher end of the earbud market so you’re not compromising here.

They are available for purchase in the US for $179.95 USD, so expect Australian availability soon with AUD pricing. They will be launching in black and beige.
