Arlo teams up with SmartThings from Samsung to expand capabilities across your smart home

Smart home security company Arlo has announced a partnership with Samsung SmartThings which will expand the capabilities of the Arlo cameras into the SmartThings ecosystem.

Arlo devices have always been accessible within SmartThings, but this partnership enhances that with new features that draw on Arlo’s AI smarts to make new features available to SmartThings users.

SmartThings, although it’s a Samsung platform is an open ecosystem allowing a wide range of brands, including Samsung to be accessible on a single app and even on Samsung appliances. This has allowed users to see their cameras or use camera motion alerts to trigger other SmartThings products like lights or notifications.

Under this new partnership Arlo’s devices will be enabled for Two-Way Audio within the SmartThings app, as well as providing snapshots of events detected on Arlo cameras.

Perhaps most critically, the Arlo object detection can be used within SmartThings automations, allowing users to trigger SmartThings actions based on far more specific Arlo detections.

An Arlo camera might detect a package, and set a certain light to turn on. Perhaps a person is detected at the front door, if that happens, turn on a specific bedroom light.

This granular event trigger concept will allow far more detailed Automations.

You need to be using the Arlo Secure 5 subscription to integrate these advanced features, no specific word on timing or availability.
