The stunning new BMW iX3 is a vision for the future realised as Neue Klasse comes to market

BMW has revealed the first new model to be designed and engineered under their 2025 Neue Klasse vision – it will be the iX3 and it’s not just a sleek stylish design but it’s packed with all of BMW’s next generation technology.

The company has been teasing this new generation for some time now, going back years even at the tech show CES, and then going further last year and into this January’s big tech show.

Underpinning the future vision is BMW’s largest-ever investment and is all about taking huge steps forward in the areas of electrification, digitilisation and circularity.

As the first Neue Klass model, the all-electric iX3 leads the way ahead of a total of six new vehicle models with this new DNA over the coming two years.

Outside the car pays tribute to the company’s heritage but features an all-new brand face and light signature to make it stand out day and night.

Critically though, sitting inside and in particular the drivers seat, it’s a big change. A new screen projects across the entire lower part of the windscreen – showing a range of critical information near the driver and other information from music to route planning across the dashbard.

The centre infotainment screen is a unique angled shape pointing closer to the driver for simplicity of use and measuring 17.9 inches sitting at a 17.5 degree angle toward the driver.

In terms of “circularity” as BMW calls it, sustainability is a key part of the materials being used, including a range of secondary materials. The overall carbon footprint of the overall supply chain is 42% smaller than the previous model.

Oliver Zipse, Chairman of the Board of Management of BMW AG, said the Neue Klasse represented a brand-shifting advancement, both from a pure product perspective and the influence it would have on all aspects of the BMW business.

“The Neue Klasse is our biggest future-focused project and marks a huge leap forward in terms of technologies, driving experience and design,” he said.

“Practically everything about it is new, yet it is also more BMW than ever. Our whole product range will benefit from the innovations brought by the Neue Klasse – whichever drive system technology is employed. What started as a bold vision has now become reality: the BMW iX3 is the first Neue Klasse model to go into series production.

“We are not only bringing the next generation of one of our most successful fully electric vehicles onto the road, we are launching a new era for BMW,” Mr. Zipse added.

Australian bound iX3 models will be built in Hungary, going into production in March next year, with deliveries in mid-2026.
