Samsung set to announce a new, innovative layer of privacy at Galaxy Unpacked 2026 this month

Samsung has today announced the date for the Galaxy Unpacked 2026 event in San Francisco: February 26, at 5am AEDT. This year, Samsung is promising to show off a new level of privacy for its smartphones, one we haven’t seen before.

At this stage, it is unclear just what this new layer of privacy actually does or how it does it, but based on the teasers, the new privacy software will “shield your phone from shoulder surfing wherever you go.” It will somehow make the display so that only you can read it, and not those next to you, behind you, or anywhere else. This lets you check your messages, enter a password, and surf the web without prying eyes seeing what they shouldn’t be.

The new layer is customisable, allowing you to apply it only to certain apps, such as banking apps, or when entering access details for private areas of your phone. The layer allows you to set varying levels of visibility to limit what others can see based on the “level of privacy protection you need.”

That’s it. Nothing more. We are not sure whether it is software-only, a new layer on the display, or something else, but this innovative software is a welcome addition to smartphones in 2026. It has been a while since we have seen true innovation that was not “AI will make your life better,” something most of us have heard enough of.

To find out more, tune into Galaxy Unpacked yourself on 26 February at 5am, or simply open EFTM when you wake up that day, and we will have all the details for you!
