Google is continuing their rollout of Gemini in their products, with Chrome the latest to include a way to call on Google’s AI Assistant.
From today Google is rolling out Gemini in Chrome on desktop to countries in the Asia Pacific region, including Indonesia, Japan, the Philippines, Singapore, South Korea, Vietnam and of course Australia.
The update will bring an ‘Ask Gemini’ icon to the tab bar in Chrome on desktop, letting you easily launch Google’s chatbot in a sidebar on the page so you can start interacting right away.
In the tab, you can do a number of things including getting summaries of the page you’re on, as well as comparing it to other tabs. Gemini can do all sorts of things with the information including creating quizzes and more.
The hooks from Chrome into your Google Workspace will let you interact with Google products including Gmail, Maps, Calendar, YouTube and more, letting you do things like schedule meetings with Calendar, check location details with Maps, draft and send emails with Gmail and ask questions about YouTube videos.
You can also use Google’s Nano Banana 2 model will let you edit images from the web using a text prompt.
Google’s integration of Gemini into Chrome will also include safeguards including prompt injection protection, and confirmation requests before completing sensitive actions.
The rollout of Gemini in Chrome is starting today and will complete over the next few months, so keep an eye out in your browser.
