With the rising prices of RAM and other hardware, along with logistical pricing challenges, something had to eventually give, and it has for the Steam Deck, with prices increasing significantly this week.
Announced via its hardware blog, the Steam Deck OLED 512GB is now priced at AU$1,199 and the Steam Deck OLED 1TB is priced at AU$1,429. This price increase is significant, with the 512GB variant representing a 33% increase from AU$899, and the 1TB version a 36% increase from AU$1,049.
The price increases do not reflect any change in hardware; the devices remain the same as before.

In its official statement, Valve explained the price increase:
“Steam Deck itself hasn’t changed; these new prices reflect the current state of component costs and other global logistical challenges across the industry as a whole. We’ll keep you updated if anything changes.”
I’m sure this is not the last price increase we will see in the gaming and PC industry, but those interested in purchasing a Steam Deck may need to look into the second-hand or refurbished market.
Keep in mind that when deciding on what to buy, a Steam Deck is not the only device that can run SteamOS.
