When it comes to “Streaming TV” in Australia we think first and foremost of the global giant Netflix, then Stan and Presto – well strap yourselves in, it’s getting crowded down-under – in March we’ll welcome Hayu too.
Media mega company NBCUniversal International today announced hayu – a “Subscription Video on Demand Reality Service” – yep, all-reality TV!
Apparently curated and “fully integrated with social media” the service launches in March in Australia and the UK & Ireland on mobile, tablets and PC via www.hayu.com
Brace yourselves – here’s what’s coming:
- Over 3,000 episodes including Keeping Up with the Kardashians, Made in Chelsea, The Real Housewives and The Millionaire Matchmaker
- The Majority of US shows will debut on the service the same day as their US launch
- Complete box sets allow fans to catch up on series from the very beginning
And it will be the cheapest of the streaming services at $5.99 per month. No contract, and as usual, a free one-month trial.
This is a sign that Australians are happy to pay, but also that it’s becoming difficult for the deal makers to find someone to do a deal with – so – go direct!
