After announcing the worlds first foldable PC, the Thinkpad X1 Fold at CES earlier this year, Lenovo has today expanded on details, pricing and availability for the laptop, as well as introducing a new Thinkpad X1 Nano, and new Thinkbook laptops.
Lenovo announced the folding Thinkpad X1 Fold at CES but it’s taken until now to launch the laptop. Lenovo has used the intervening time to improve the X1 Fold. The company has done a lot of product testing with users, improving things like options for switching screens and also the kickstand on the back of the unit which now has more angles.
The wait for the X1 Fold is over though, with the laptop now available to pre-order starting at $3,999.
The Thinkpad X1 Fold includes a 13-inch Plastic OLED (pOLED) display which folds over on itself. The laptop includes an on-screen keyboard as part of Windows 10, or users can check out the mini Bluetooth keyboard which can be stored (and charged) inside the PC itself with magnets securing it in place.
The X1 Fold starts with an Intel Core i5 processor with Intel Hybrid Technology, and offers options starting with 8GB RAM and up to a 1TB PCIe-NVMe M.2 2242 SSD. The Battery life looks decent with over 10 hours on offer.
Lenovo also announced the new X1 Nano, their lightest Thinkpad to date.
The Lenovo Thinkpad X1 Nano has the familiar Thinkpad design, but weighs in at a miniscule 907 grams. The laptop is built with Magnesium and Carbon Fiber to achieve the familiar Thinkpad durability, while keeping that weight down.
The X1 Nano includes options for Intel’s 11th Gen ‘Tiger Lake’ processors, which brings Thunderbolt 4 and Wifi 6 support, and is Lenovo’s first Thinkpad based on Intel’s new EVO platform. The Evo platform guarantees basic expectations like speed, and battery life with the X1 Nano promising up to 13 hours.
The laptop includes a 13-inch 2K display has a 16:10 aspect ratio, and ultra-slim bezels which includes Dolby Vision support, and there’s four speakers and four 360-
degree microphones onboard, with Dolby Atmos support as well.
The Thinkpad X1 Nano includes support for both Windows Hello camera and fingerprint login for additional security. The laptop also includes new voice recognition and human presence detection which can log you in as you approach, or lock the device when you walk away.
Lenovo will be offering either Windows 10 Pro or Ubuntu Linux on the X1 Nano when it launches, as well as options for 5G connectivity. At this stage Lenovo hasn’t announced pricing or availability dates beyond possibly seeing it in December.
Lenovo is also announcing a new series of laptops in their Thinkbook range, with processor options ranging from the new 11th Gen Intel Core processors to AMD Ryzen 4000 series mobile processors.
The new Thinkbook range will use a new dual-tone design with frameless displays minimising bezels around the screen.
While there’s a number of new Thinkbook laptops on their way, Lenovo has highlighted three models which offer some neat new features.
First is the Thinkbook 13s with a 13.3-inch 16:10 aspect ratio display, aimed at ultra-mobile laptop users.
The Thinkbook 13s is among the first in the Thinkbook family to receive EVO certification from Intel. For Evo certification the laptop uses 11th Gen Intel Core processors, though AMD processors will also be an option.
Lenovo are offering DDR4 RAM as well as PCIe Gen 4 options on the Thinkbook 13s for increased speeds, and you also get Thunderbolt 4 and Wifi 6. The 56Whr battery inside will definitely last all day with EVO certification guaranteeing a minimum 9 hour battery life.
Lenovo is also updating their Thinkbook 14s Yoga with the latest 11th Gen Intel processors, offering users the versatile 360-degree Yoga hinge with the latest processors.
The Thinkbook 14s Yoga includes a smart pen which can be stored inside the laptop itself leting you take notes quickly wherever you are. Lenovo has thought about the note-taking ability, pulling out the Pen in modern standby mode automatically opens the note-taking app, while taking it out when logged into Windows 10, will ensure Windows Ink shortcuts are ready to go.
As well as the 11th Gen Intel processors, the Thinkbook 15 Gen 2 is a mainstream laptop that includes a convenient set of Bluetooth earbuds tucked away in the chassis.
The inclusion of earbuds in the laptop itself offers a convenience not found anywhere else. The buds charge automatically when stored & connect to the laptop audio instantly when taken out. You can mute or unmute yourself by tapping the earbuds, and they feature dual mics to enable environmental noise cancellation. While you can pair the buds to any device, you will of course need to disconnect those before connecting to the laptop again.

The ThinkBook 15 Gen 2 with Intel processors is expected to be available from October 2020, starting at $1,439, while the AMD model has yet to be priced.
The ThinkBook 13s Gen 2 running Intel processors will start at $1,459,, while a model with AMD processors will start from $1,359. Both models are expected to be available from October 2020.
The ThinkBook 14s Yoga with Intel CPU options is expected to be available from November 2020, starting at $1,639.
Availability and pricing for the ThinkBook 15p running Intel CPU options will be announced later. .
ThinkBook 14 Gen 2 with an Intel processor will start at $1,499, while an AMD powered model will start at $1,399. Both will be available from October 2020.
ThinkPad E14 Gen 2 is expected to be available from November 2020, starting at $999.
