The Chromecast with Google TV is one of our favourite devices from last year. A lack of individual profiles has been a drawback, especially for parents whose profiles are now full of the latest searches for ‘Fortnite’, ‘Bluey’ or whatever the latest trend is. Google is going to fix this though with Kid Profiles set to arrive this month.
Kid profiles can be added to Chromecast with Google TV as a generic profile using just a name and age, or as a parent managed account through Family Link. Managed accounts will also let you share specific content from your Google Play library to the account, as well as monitor screen time including setting time limits and a bedtime timer.
Kids are prevented from switching back and forth between profiles with a pin to lock down your account.
Just like your recommendations in ‘Discover’ on Chromecast with Google TV, there will be kid friendly recommendations from apps like YouTube Kids, Nick and Noggin. You’ll also be able to set up special kid friendly backgrounds, and soon the kids can choose their own avatar.
Kid Profiles will arrive first on Chromecast with Google TV in the US this month before expanding globally ‘over the next few months’. Google says they will also expand kid profiles to ‘other Google TV devices’ which includes TCL and Sony TVs as well.
