After experiencing a severe cellular network outage earlier this month, Vodafone has announced that customers will be treated to a ‘Free Data’ weekend this weekend.
From 12.01am April 24th until 11.59pm on April 25th, customers with a Vodafone mobile phone plan, mobile broadband plan or prepaid service will be able to download as much as they like, without it counting towards their monthly downloads.
The unlimited data offer will also count for any users on ‘unlimited’ plans who have reached their monthly cap. During the free data weekend, those customers will return to full download speeds says Vodafone. Pre-paid customers will also be able to use the free data weekend, including 365-day plan subscribers, as long as they recharged in the last 365 days.
This isn’t the first time Vodafone has offered a free data weekend as compensation for a major network outage. In June last year, Vodafone suffered a similar nationwide outage, and offered a free data weekend as well. Other Australian telcos have also suffered similar outages and also offered free data weekends as compensation as well.
The only real limit to the free data weekend appears to be that you’ll need to be in Australia to use it, which, let’s face it, is fair enough.
