HMD Global unveiled their new line up in April, introducing their new C, G and X series phones offering features for users across the mobile landscape. They’ve announced new C and X-series phones today, as well as a new range of branded accessories to complement their devices.

XR20

In line with the days of yore, when you couldn’t kill a Nokia phone even if you tried, HMD Global has announced a new ruggedised handset, the Nokia XR20 – and for once it doesn’t actually look like a rugged phone.

The XR20 comes as recognition that phones are fragile, and backed up with statistics, HMD Global have gone about making the toughest phone they can. The phone comes with full Mil-Spec certification (MIL-STD 810H) as well as having an IP68 water/dust resistance ratinand it’s also been drop tested to 1.8m. It even comes with Gorilla Glass Victus to protect the 6.67-inch FHD+ resolution display.

The phone comes with 3 years warranty to back this ruggedisation up, including a free screen replacement warranty for the first year.

The specs include a Qualcomm Snpadragon processor on board, a SD480 to be specific with 5G support. The processor isn’t the highest end, but it is current and should work well paired with 6GB RAM and 128GB Storage which can be expanded up to 512GB with a microSD card.

To back up the hardware, the phone will last up to four years with HMD Global committing to four years of monthly security updates, and three years of OS updates.

After using a fair few ruggedised phones over the years, the big benefit of the Nokia XR20 is that it looks just like any other phone, and you get a choice of either Ultra Blue or Granite colour options.

Nokia C30

The announcement today also includes the Nokia C30, a new entry level model in their range designed to ease feature phone users into the smartphone world. The new C30 includes a large 6.82” screen for users to easily see and access their apps, games and even media.

The phone includes a UniSoc branded processor, and will be available in three configs — 2GB/32GB, 3GB/32GB, and 3GB/64GB — though we’ll have to wait on HMD Global to clarify which will arrive in Australia.

On the software front, the Nokia C30 runs Android Go based on Android 11 and comes with 2 years of security updates.

Nokia Accessories

After announcing the new phones, HMD Global also announced a new range of Nokia branded accessories comprising of earbuds at this stage.

HMD Global will offer four lines of earbuds in the line, with their new Comfort, Clarity, Go and Micro lines. There’s specifics for each range which will focus on features for each line.

  • Comfort range – Beautiful design, comfort and innovation in one.
  • Clarity Range —  Audio clarity fused with latest technology. Environmental Noise Cancellation, ANC, rapid gaming  mode, longest battery life, Qualcomm Chipset
  • Go Range – Great sound, ultra-high value
  • Micro Range – Microsized buds with big sound. Small buds and cases to easily fit in the pocket.

As well, there will be new mono bluetooth headsets, which are popular with a range of people who work in industries such as Construction, as well as delivery drivers.

Availability

At this stage there’s no details on when the Nokia C30 or their new accessory line will launch here in Australia – but those details shouldn’t be too far away.

For the Nokia XR20 though, the good news is that the handset will go on sale for RRP $879, and available from August 12 at JB Hi-Fi, Officeworks (online), Harvey Norman, Big W (online) and The Good Guys (online) and the Nokia website.
