Victoria beats NSW to integrated Vaccination Certificates at QR Check-in

While the NSW Government has been talking about their fast moving changes to the Service NSW app to integrate vaccination status, it seems Victoria takes the win when it comes to getting it released for users with the Service Victoria App now integrating your vaccination status if you choose to share it.

NSW residents are tasting freedoms today that have been unavailable for months, yet the Service NSW app is not yet able to show the vaccination status for those checking into venues where that very status is a right of entry.

In Victoria, where lockdowns continue as cases grow and Vaccination status edges near to freedom, the Service Victoria app has been updated to allow for integration of your vaccination status.

Still in trial, but available to all Victorians, the process is simple, and it’s exactly as described by NSW Minister for Customer Service Victor Dominello on the recent EFTM podcast.

If you’re fully vaccinated, you simply download the Express Plus Medicare app, and use your MyGov account to login and then view your Immunisation History and choose “Share with Check In App”.

Once you do this, you are presented with a page which will in time show all the compatible check-in apps, but for today, it’s Victoria who make the page first.

This will then open a browser, which will then jump into your state check-in app.

You will then see a small card sized version of your immunisation certificate, and choose “Add Certificate” to store than in your Services Victoria (or other) check in app.

Once this data is stored in the app, whenever you check in to a venue, there is a tick next to your name on the check in success screen.

For services Victoria the background of the page is State logos which animate and move in the background to prevent “screenshot copycats”.

Of course this is just one method of verification, you can also show your Express Plus Medicare app certificate, or add your certificate to Apple and Google wallets. However, the integration with check in apps means one app, one process and you’re good to go!

The NSW Government say they are in the final week of testing, with the app integration due to launch next week, however many would argue that’s a week late given “Freedom Day” is today.

Notch this one up as a win to Victoria.

But we should also notch it up as a victory for digital innovation and a huge win for inter and intra governmental co-operation.
