At CES, the Samsung Display division has shown off a brand new OLED panel for smartphones with a peak brightness over 2,000 nits.

The display carries an Ultra Dynamic Range (UDR) of 1,500 and 2,000 which has been certified independently by UL Solutions, a global safety science company. The display would be especially useful on phones which are often used outside in direct sunlight, with the high brightness rating likely able to overcome even the harsh Australian sun.

Samsung has also said that the display brightness has been improved while also ‘maintaining the efficiency of power consumption and organic material’ so hopefully the additional brightness won’t drain the battery too much.

While Samsung has only announced the panel, which it’s showing off at CES, they haven’t announced which phone it will appear in. However, with the Galaxy S23 series expected to be launched soon, it’s possible we may be seeing these displays sooner rather than later.
