Happy iPhone pre-order day. As at 10pm this evening the iPhone went on pre-order with expectations of a solid bit of interest from those who love to have the latest, as well as those who’ve been waiting years for the right phone to upgrade to.

I think in reality if you’re in the market for an iPhone 15 this year, you’ve got three options.

Buy from Apple Direct, Buy outright at a major retailer, or buy it on a plan from a Telco.

Critically though, there’s a huge trend toward trade-ins in recent years, this year’s no different.

Vodafone Deals on iPhone 15

It’s safe to say Vodafone have come out aggressively with their iPhone 15 deals.

iPhone 15 plans offer double data, with their Small $45 monthly plan offering 40GB regularly, and an additional 40GB for those who sign up with an iPhone 15. The $55 Medium plan doubles the 150GB on offer to $300, while the Large $65 plan is a staggering 600GB of data in total.

In addition to that awesome data deal, and the generally low price of those monthly data plans, Vodafone is also offering a $150 bonus trade-in credit when you buy an iPhone 15 and trade in an older device.

In all these cases, you are committing to a 12, 24 or 36 month plan, with the device cost a simple division of the retail price by the number of months in your plan!

Optus Deals on iPhone 15

Optus are doing the retail trick of matching any price on an iPhone 15. They say “Thanks to the Optus 5G Phone Price Match Guarantee customers can get the best price on their 5G compatible iPhone. The way it works is simple. If you see a better priced 5G compatible iPhone, tell us. We’ll match any competitor’s genuine retail price on the same 5G mobile phone provided it is in-stock and the price is not tied to any lock-in offers.

Bottom line, they’ve clipped a touch off the outright RRP prices of the iPhone, and if someone else does similar, they’ll match it.

iPhone 15 Pro with 128GB is $1948.96 – is that a 04cent saving? You get the gist.

The main strategy of Optus for the iPhone 15 is to push people toward their $89 plan, using the “Optus Plus Promo Plan” which offers 500GB of data every month for $69 for the first twelve months – then goes to $89 after that.

Here’s how that affects the price of the phone on the Optus Plus Promo Plan pricing.

  • iPhone 15 Pro 128GB: $154.08 per month, minimum cost $1,917.96.
  • iPhone 15 Pro 256GB: $170.70 per month, minimum cost $2,117.40.
  • iPhone 15 Pro 512GB: $199.86 per month, minimum cost $2,467.32.
  • iPhone 15 Pro 1TB: $229.08 per month, minimum cost $2,817.96.

Telstra’s iPhone 15 deals

This one is simple, so simple.

Telstra are backing their own existing plans, and working toward just getting people to trade-in and upgrade.

How? Here’s $350 more than whatever our Trade-In price is.

So you go to Telstra’s website, find the value of your phone, then add $350 – that’s now the reduction in price for your new iPhone 15. Pick a plan, off you go.

Trade-In Value

Telstra, Optus and Vodafone all have websites that will tell you the value of your current smartphone.

Interestingly Optus says the value will be paid to you as a “gift card”, which we assume can just be used against your new iPhone 15. All the others simply market their trade-ins as a way of reducing the price of your iPhone 15.

If you’re looking for a more independent way to get value for your phone Boost Mobile has a site to give you a potential phone value and perhaps more suitably, an app called the “Boost Mobile Trade-In App” which actually analyses your current phone’s status to give you the most accurate value based on exactly how well your phone performs

Example trade-in prices from Boost are:

  • iPhone 14 Pro Max 256GB       – $1,080 via Boost Mobile Trade-In App
  • iPhone 13 Pro Max 512GB       – $950 via Boost Mobile Trade-In App
  • iPhone 13 Pro 256GB                – $815 via Boost Mobile Trade-In App
  • iPhone 12 Pro Max 256GB       – $680 via Boost Mobile Trade-In App
  • iPhone 12 128GB                        – $455 via Boost Mobile Trade-In App
  • iPhone 11 Pro Max 512GB       – $515 via Boost Mobile Trade-In App
  • iPhone 11 64GB                          – $310 via Boost Mobile Trade-In App
