BYD takes on the Model Y and KIA EV5 with the launch of the BYD Sealion 7 full EV mid-sized SUV

BYD has taken the Australian market by storm in recent years with its various models, and now another full-EV is coming with the launch of the BYD Sealion 7 full EV in Australia with sharp pricing.

The company sees this as a reshaping of the premium or luxury motoring sector, with a Euro styled SUV joining their fleet.

0-100 time is 4.5 seconds, while it has a range of close to 500km.

Kia EV5 starts at $56,770 (prices for Private NSW purchase), the Tesla Model Y is $63,400 and the BYD Sealion 7 will start at $58,148 (Drive away)

If we compare the three key competitors here, and their entry level and cheapest long range models, the drive away prices are really fascinating, with BYD and KIA really taking Tesla on – head on.

BYD took to the golf course to launch the vehicle with Luke Todd saying “LIV Golf has been the perfect platform to unveil SEALION 7 to a sell-out crowd. We have a shared value of challenging the status quo in our respective industries and this has been a fantastic opportunity to continue our involvement in iconic Australian sporting and cultural moments,”

They’ve had 500 early orders which have already been snapped up according to local CEO David Smitherman “500 SEALION 7s have already landed in Australia and with over 5,000 expressions of interest registered through our website, we are well placed to commence immediate deliveries for our customers.”

“The mid-size SUV segment is a crucial one, representing 23% of all vehicles sold in Australia and forming part of the broader 57% share held by SUVs. Today, we’re proud to introduce our latest innovation: the all-new, fully electric BYD SEALION 7.”

We’ll get behind the wheel soon, and you’ll hear all about it on Two Blokes Talking Electric Cars.
