The Ferrari 488 Spider is simply one of the most beautiful drop-top cars in the world, as we discovered first hand recently here at EFTM. So how do you improve on near perfection? Cue the 488 Pista Spider that has just been launched at Concours d’Elegance, Pebble Beach in California.
Derived from the Pista 488, this is the 50th drop-top model for Ferrari and features the most powerful Ferrari V8 engine to date. The 530kW engine produces at 8000rpm / 770Nm at 3000 rpm in 7th gear.
Aside from the thumping 3.9-litre V8 there’s central racing strips that run the length of the coupe. Weight has been saved via the use of lightweight, pared-back components. The obligatory carbon-fibre and Alcantara is found throughout, while footwell carpets have been replaced by patterned aluminium foot plates.
There’s also new diamond-finish 20” alloy wheels with a unique 10-spoke star-effect interpretation of Ferrari’s traditional mid-rear engine berlinetta-style rims.
No doubt some extra $$$ will need to be parted with, given the standard 488 Spider starts from a cool $645,000!
