As well as drones, DJI is also well known for their camera gimbals and the new Osmo Mobile 4 gimbal is now available to help make your mobile videos looks smarter, smoother and more professional.

The 3-axis gimbal offers a number of improvements as well as the usual stabilised video and photos we’ve all come to know and love, the big news though is the new magnetic attachment mechanism. There’s two options to attach your phone to the gimbal, either a metal clamp which attaches to your phone, or a magnetic ring mount which can act as a kickstand when away from the gimbal – you get both, so no dramas about deciding before buying.

The Osmo Mobile 4 offers 15 hours of battery life, though it can also top up your devices through the USB-C port on board. The layout of the buttons is the same as the last generation, and it keeps the same compact design as the Osmo Mobile 3 as well.

DJI says the motors on the Osmo Mobile 4 have been updated so there shouldn’t be any issues with larger phones.

There’s some neat new tricks in the DJI Mimo software for the gimbal, with DJI adding a new Spin Shot Gimbal Movement which spins the mobile around for a spin effect. You can also do an Alfred Hitchock style dolly zoom (DJI call it Dynamic Zoom) which ‘works by digitally zooming in on a subject while walking backward or zooming out while walking forward’. The gimbal can also capture 240° or 3×3 Pano shots to tell more of the story with a single image.

The DJI Osmo Mobile 4, with magnetic ring holder, magnetic clamp, tripod, wrist strap and storage pouch, is now available to order from the DJI mobile store for $239 with shipping through DHL for an additional $41.50. The Osmo Mobile 4 will be available through the usual DJI sellers, so you may want to wait and save yourself that delivery fee.

DJI are sending an Osmo Mobile 4 over for us to check out, so expect a full review soon.
