At their ‘For those who Dare: Boundless’ event overnight, ROG has shown off the latest in their lineup with a new ROG Strix SCAR 17 Special Edition and ROG Flow X16.

The event has showcased the new ROG Strix SCAR 17 Special Edition, a new model which takes the existing SCAR 2022 and maximses everything. Then there’s the ROG Flow X16, a thin and light convertible powerhouse showcasing a dazzling Nebula HDR  display and new cooling system.

Both systems include a 90Wh battery, and come with Dolby Vision displays and quad-speaker setup with Dolby Atmos support.

ROG Strix SCAR 17 Special Edition

The ROG Strix Scar 17 Special Edition has been built to maximise the gaming experience, introducing faster processors and high-end cooling.

The laptop has a distinct cyberpunk aesthetic, which includes hidden messages written in invisible ink applied to the chassis which can be read with a UV flashlight, which offer hints for the ASUS SCAR Runner parkour game – which can net you some neat prizes, check it out here.

The ROG Strix SCAR 17 Special Edition brings the latest 12th Gen Intel Core i9-12950HX series processor, with an NVIDIA RTX3080 Ti Laptop GPU (16GB DDR6, Max TGP 175W) and configured with up to 64GB of DDR5 4800MHz RAM and up to 4TB PCIe 4.0 SSD in Raid 0 for fast access speeds.

ASUS ROG has included a custom vapour chamber in the STRIX Scar 17 Special Edition, as well as applying their exclusive Conductonaut Extreme liquid metal process to both the CPU and GPU, allowing for faster performance.

The laptop includes a choice of a 17.3-inch panel in either FHD 360 Hz or QHD 240 Hz configuration, both with a 3ms response for crystal clear motion clarity while gaming.

The laptop includes Wifi 6E, as well as more connectivity with USB-C (1x Thunderbolt 4), USB-A ports, HDMI, RJ45 Network, as well as audio jack.

At this stage, ASUS hasn’t announced a release date for Australia, or pricing but we’ll get those closer to launch.

ROG Flow X16

The ROG Flow X13 we reviewed recently offers a tablet that can turn into a laptop, but the newly announced ROG Flow X16 is a 16-inch laptop that can convert to a tablet.

Powered by the latest AMD Ryzen 9 6900HS processor with up to 64GB RAM and 2TB PCIe Gen 4 SSD and an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070 Ti Laptop GPU, the ROG Flow X16 also supports the XG Mobile family of external GPUs for the Flow series.

The machine comes with a dazzling 16-inch QHD resolution LED Nebula display which is Pantone Validated and covers 100% DCI-P3 gamut with 165Hz refresh rate and 3ms response.

The ROG Flow X16 also supports Wifi 6E for faster wireless connectivity and also includes USB-C, USB-A, HDMI and a microSD card reader.

ROG hasn’t given us a date for the launch of the Flow X16 as yet, but we’ll find out more closer to launch.
