Late last year we reported on Apple bringing RCS to iOS in 2024 but there has been no update on that timeframe since then. Now, according to Google on their Messages website in a comment that has since disappeared, it will be arriving in Australian Sping this year.
For those of us who have friends and family who use different varieties of mobile operating systems the whole green bubble and refusal of Apple to allow any decent inter-OS compatibility is incredibly frustrating.
No longer will videos and pictures sent from an iOS device to an Android device be sent using the old SMS and MMS standard — yes that is why those images and videos are exceptionally low quality, pixelated and often incredibly difficult to decipher.
According to the new Google Messages landing page, in a now-deleted image:

Better messaging for all.
Apple has announced it will be adopting RCS in the fall of 2024.
Once that happens, it will mean a better messaging experience for everyone.
While the exact date in unclear EFTM thinks it is likely to come with the iOS 18.0 release alongside the new iPhones. Once it arrives it will yet another step toward inter-operability between all of our smart devices. Something that cannot come soon enough.
Maybe we can all just get along?
